THE leader of Greenwich Council was attacked by a group of youths just yards from the town hall, it has emerged.
According to sources, Councillor Chris Roberts was attacked last month at around 1am in Woolwich town centre while on his way back from a council function.
It is believed Cllr Roberts had just got off a bus in General Gordon Square following an altercation with a group of youths who then attacked him.
A spokesman for Greenwich police said: “We can confirm that a man was assaulted in Woolwich town centre on February 19.
“The victim sustained minor injuries after he was pushed to the ground by a group of four suspects.”
Cllr Roberts was unavailable for comment.
