BOOK lovers are being invited to an event at Forest Hill Library this afternoon (March 5) to celebrate World Book Night.

Local writers and performance poets will be showcasing their work from 4.30pm at the library, on Dartmouth Road.

Nii Ayikwei Parkes will also be introducing his debut novel Tail of the Blue Bird.

Entry is free. To book a place, call 020 8699 2065.

World Book Night is a national celebration of adult books and reading across the UK and Ireland.

One million books were given away on World Book Day (March 3) by 20,000 passionate readers, who each distributed 48 copies of their chosen title to members of the public.

The remaining books are being distributed today (World Book Night) to prisons and hospitals.
