A FATHER was arrested for hitting his 13-year-old son as the boy was being questioned about a burglary in Petts Wood.

The 46-year-old man was with the teenager at Bromley police station after his son was arrested in connection with the break in at a house in Prescott Avenue.

He was given several verbal warnings about his role during the interview as the investigating officer felt his behaviour was inappropriate.

But a police spokesman says the man then hit his son so hard that his head nearly bounced off the interview table.

Officers arrested the father for assault and after admitting the offence on February 15 and showing remorse he was given a police caution.

The victim was released from custody into the care of a grandparent on the evening that evening.

He remains on bail for the burglary and is due to return to the police station on March 17.
