Morrisons staff from the Erith, Sidcup, Thamesmead and Welling stores visited Greenwich & Bexley Community Hospice on 22 February to take a fresh look at hospice care in their local community.

The visit marked the end of the supermarket’s national Charity of the Year partnership with Help the Hospices, the leading charity supporting hospice care in the UK.

The Morrisons stores in Erith, Sidcup, Thamesmead and Welling were twinned with Greenwich & Bexley Community Hospice for 10 months, raising £31,421.78 for the Hospice.

Staff celebrated the successful partnership by bringing a shopping trolley of freshly baked goodies, fruit, groceries and flowers to share with hospice patients and nurses.

“It just goes to show what can be achieved when a committed group of people come together to raise money for a fantastic local cause,” said Erith Store Manager Brendan O'Grady.

Julie Lawrie-Raison from Greenwich & Bexley Community Hospice said: “Morrisons staff and customers have really embraced hospice care throughout the partnership, coming up with some really creative fundraising ideas which have made a big difference to people facing the end of life as well as their families. Staff and customers have been absolutely fantastic in their support of the Hospice. We can’t thank them enough.”

Fundraising activities included monthly tombolas, sponsored hair cuts, bike rides, book sales and in-store collections. All money raised by the stores through staff fundraising will directly fund hospice services for people with life-limiting illnesses from Greenwich and Bexley.
