A CHILDMINDER is appealing for people to sign her petition to save a children’s centre which is at risk of closure.

Jane Smith, 39, regularly takes her children to James Dixon Children and Family Centre, William Booth Road, Anerley, where they enjoy meeting other youngsters.

There are also parenting courses run there and a health visitor drops by to give advice.

But this could all stop if councillors take the decision at a council meeting next Monday (February 28) to save money by closing the centre.

Ms Smith, of Rosebank, Penge, is running an online petition to show councillors how important the centre is to people in Anerley and Penge.

The mother-of-two said: “I think for vulnerable families it is a very good support and if they took it away there is nothing else out there like it.

“At the centre the children get to mix together and the staff there are lovely.

“To lose it would be such a shame.

“There must be other ways for them to cut their money down.”

The petition closes tomorrow (February 22) so to sign it go to ipetitions.com/petition/jamesdixon_playgroup
