POLICE are continuing to appeal for witnesses a week on from the murder of Samuel Guidera.

Mr Guidera was found collapsed in the street in Newlands Park, opposite the junction of Bailey Place, at around 9.55pm last Saturday (February 12), around 200m from Penge East railway station.

The 24-year-old was rushed to hospital, but was pronounced dead at around 10.55pm, after suffering a single stab wound to the heart.

Officers will be at the scene of the murder tonight (February 19) from 8pm handing out leaflets to the public, in the hope they jog someone’s memory.

Police would particularly like to speak to anyone who got off the train at Penge East at the same time as Samuel.

Samuel was a student of history and politics at the University of Greenwich and was hoping to become a teacher.

He worked at a local supermarket to support his studies.

Samuel had spent the day watching football on TV with friends.

He travelled on the 9.17pm train from Bickley to Penge East, crossed the footbridge over the railway to the Newlands Park exit en route to meet a friend.

Detective Lawrence Smith said: "Sam came from a loving family who are devastated as they struggle to come to terms with his death.

"We particularly want to hear from people who got off the train at the same time as Samuel.

"Were you on the 9.285pm Victoria to Orpington train?

“The train arrived at Penge East station at 9.41pm when Samuel Guidera got off the train. Did you get off the train at the same time? You may hold crucial information for this investigation.

"Samuel was carrying a distinctive pink T-mobile carrier bag which someone may remember."

A 39-year-old man arrested on Thursday (February 17) morning at an address in Penge has now been released on bail pending further inquiries, and has been ordered to return to the station in April.

A second man, aged 18, who was arrested at an address in Sydenham yesterday at 7am (February 18) has also been bailed to return in April.

Anyone with information should call 020 8345 3734 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
