GRAVESEND residents have received a visit from Shadow Health Minister, John Healy.

The Labour politician visited Riverside Community Centre in Dickens Road on February 10.

He was there to hear from a group of over 50 local people regarding their concerns about current issues.

Topics that were discussed included concerns about the government's proposed break up of the NHS, cuts to Sure Start and support for people with disabilities.

John Healey said: "I was delighted to be able to come to Gravesend and hear local residents' views.

“It is clear that people here are concerned that the cuts being imposed by the government are too far and too fast.”

Speaking about the visit, Gravesham’s Labour leader, Councillor John Burden said: “Today’s meeting shows that the Labour Party wants to listen to local people and take on board their concerns.

“It is heartening to know that the matters raised at meetings such as this will be incorporated into future Labour policy. That is how policies should be made – by the people, for the people.”
