SUBSTANTIAL damage was caused when a fire ripped through a house in Orpington last night.

Two fire engines, one from Orpington, and one from Sidcup attended the house in Shoreham Road at 6.50pm.

They were called by a neighbour who had been alerted to the fire by a working smoke alarm.

The family who live in the house were out at the time and no one was injured.

Fire fighters took three hours to put the blaze out.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
