The cable car will strecch across the Thames from Greenwich peninsula
THE first stage of a £25m cable car project across the Thames has been approved.
Newham Council’s planning committee has agreed the plans which will see a system stretching 1,100m over the river to the North Greenwich Peninsula.
Taking five minutes to cross, it is estimated the cars will carry up to 2,500 people an hour in each direction.
Greenwich Council is due to consider its side of the scheme on January 27.
Plans include a two-storey building with concourse, ticket office, retail space and a departure platform, along with a gondola storage building.
A tower supporting the cable would be placed to the south of Queen Elizabeth II Pier.
The project has been supported by London Mayor Boris Johnson.
