A ROAD in Meopham that collapsed due to burst water pipes has been reopened after 20 days of closure.

Wrotham Road was opened today (January 20), allowing traffic to flow through the village as usual.

Final surfacing of the new pavements and the installation of new kerbs will begin on January 31.

A spokesman for Southern Water said: “The A227 Wrotham Road at Meopham in Kent has now re-opened to traffic.

“The road was closed on January 1 after a 15-metre-wide section of it collapsed.

“This last stage of the reinstatement is expected to take a week.

"Temporary traffic lights will be in effect while the work is carried out.

“The restoration of driveways and gardens that were affected is also being arranged.

“We thank the villagers of Meopham and motorists who use the road for their patience while this repair was made.”
