A 24-YEAR-OLD man filmed kicking a puppy in a park has been jailed for eight weeks.

Arthur Kent, of Langley Road, Welling, told News Shopper last year he gave four-month-old lurcher Thumper “a bit of a kick and a yank” because it urinated on his trousers and would not walk on the lead.

Footage of the incident, filmed by a member of the public in Knee Hill Park, Abbey Wood, appeared on YouTube and led to a public outcry.

Bexley Magistrates’ Court also banned Kent from owning any animals for five years.

Unemployed Kent, who is currently serving a prison sentence after being recalled for a robbery conviction, pleaded guilty to animal cruelty offences on December 20 last year.

News Shopper: ABBEY WOOD: Outrage as man is seen kicking dog on Youtube. His eight-week sentence will run concurrently with his robbery jail term, which ends on July 25.

A Facebook group was set up to find Kent and an online petition was created calling on the police to press charges after the incident was broadcast on YouTube in October last year.

The dog, which belonged to Mr Kent’s brother, has since been taken away by the RSPCA.

Defence lawyer Sarah Bedford told magistrates Kent is “ashamed and horrified” by his actions on October 1 last year.

She added: “He is full of remorse and full of regret for what happened.”

Chairwoman of magistrates Susan Polydorou told Kent: “The offence you committed is so serious a custodial sentence is the most appropriate.”
