A TIP off about stolen metal and deactivated weapons led to two people being arrested in Erith.

The 36-year-old woman and 16-year-old boy were arrested at a house in the town after police discovered four deactivated assault rifles in a laundry bag in the back garden.

Officers also found two air weapons at the address.

These weapons were among a total of nine stolen during a burglary that occurred overnight between September 12 and September 13 last year at the Chislehurst & Sidcup Sea Cadets, Sandy Lane, Ruxley Corner, Sidcup.

Sergeant James Coomber of Erith safer neighbourhood team said: "This operation was mounted as a direct result of anonymous information from the public.

“Removing these deactivated weapons from circulation has reduced the risk of them being used in serious crime.

"We have now recovered six of the stolen weapons and we are appealing to the public for further information about the whereabouts of the remaining three guns.

“Call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, just tell them what you know, not who you are."

The two people arrested have both been bailed to return to a date in February pending further enquiries.
