NEW HOMES website smartnewhomes.com has launched a campaign to try and increase the housing stock of three-bedroom semi-detached houses.

The site says there is a chronic shortage of this type of property as developers are instead mainly building apartments to meet Government density requirements.

The site's managing director David Bexon said: "It is about time the Government specifically addressed the demand for particular types of housing.

"The Government needs to work closely with developers to understand the housing demand in specific regions."

The price of a new semi-detached property is up 11.5 per cent since the same time last year, compared to an average price increase across all types of property of 1.3 per cent.
