Lesnes Abbey Conservation Volunteers are looking for help to clear brambles and invasive species from Ramson Glade, an ancient herb area of the woods, which are in Abbey Road, Abbey Wood. The work takes place on January 23, with volunteers meeting at the information centre by the abbey ruins at noon and finishing by 3.30pm. Volunteers should wear suitable clothing and under-16s must be accompanied by an adult. All equipment will be provided.

Bexley RSPB is staging a photography exhibition in the Austen Gallery at Hall Place, Bourne Road, Bexley, until February 7, featuring pictures of birds taken all over the country, by local photographers. The exhibition is open from 10am until 4.15pm on Monday to Saturday and 11am until 4.15pm on Sunday. Admission is free.

Environmental organisation Embrace Social Enterprises is running a digital photography for beginners course in Herne Hill on January 22 to learn to basics of good nature photography. The course, led by a professions photographer, runs from 10.15am to 4.30pm and costs £45. London’s first two cycle superhighways have increased cycle journeys at peak times by between 70 and 100 per cent. London Mayor Boris Johnson has plans for 12 superhighways, including one from Woolwich to London Bridge by 2015, to make cycling to work in the city, easier and safer. The aim is to increase cycling in the capital by 400 per cent by 2026.
