Bromley to get £4m transport funding from Transport for London

Chislehurst Road bridge in Orpington will be replaced Chislehurst Road bridge in Orpington will be replaced

BROMLEY is set to benefit from £4m in funding to make improvements to transport across the borough.

More than £2m will go towards the cost of replacing the Chislehurst Road bridge in Orpington, which can no longer carry heavy vehicles such as buses and lorries.

Elsewhere there will be £250,000 spent on laying anti-skid road surfacing material and £400,000 invested in a major make over for Bromley North.

The money is being provided by Transport for London, which is allocating cash across the capital’s boroughs.

Mayor of London Boris Johnson said: “This funding will allow boroughs to make real improvements to town centres, provide better cycling facilities and make roads safer across the capital.”

Good.
Perhaps LBB can invest in the junction of Westerham Road and Croydon Road at Keston Mark. The traffic light phasing here causes traffic build up at peak times, caused by vehicles turning right on to Croydon Road from Westerham Road.

Perhaps LBB can also address the traffic light phasing at the entrance to The Glades, which again causes un-nescessary traffic build up by preventing traffic turning left whilst everyone else goes straight on.

What is this? Tory party members wanting to slap Boris on the back? Boris did not make these decisions, they were made by members of a sub-committee.

Perhaps some could be spent reinstating a left hand lane at the exit of Orpington High Street by the War Memorial. Due to the increase in congestion generated by the huge Tesco store, vehicles trying to turn right at the roundabout now block those wanting to turn left or go straight ahead frequently causing long tail backs. Unless the traffic engineers were planning to cause extra congestion in the High Street, I really can't understand why the previous junction layout was changed seemingly to accommodate a rather nondescript flower bed. Some say that traffic engineers rather like creating problems which they're subsequently employed trying to solve but I couldn't possibly comment.... :)
