FAMILIES enjoyed carol singing and mince pies at the launch of a new orchard.
Two pear trees, one plum tree and three apple trees were planted at East Greenwich Pleasaunce as a celebration of the holiday season.
The garden was previously a navel cemetery for around 3,000 sailors who spent their last days at the Royal Hospital Greenwich.
Around 200 people attended the event, which was organised by the Friends of East Greenwich Pleasaunce and Transition Westcombe.
Mulled wine, Halstow Community Choir, and Santa arriving on a rickshaw, were some of the attractions on offer.
The orchard cost £1,000 and was funded by Greenwich Pride, Capital Growth East London, and Awards for All as well as support from the London Orchard Project and Greenwich Parks and Open Spaces Department.
