RESIDENTS in Bexley already recycle more of their household waste than in any other London borough.

But the council is not resting on its laurels and is urging people to find more ways to increase recycling rates.

A survey in 2009 found the borough recycles 80 per cent of its waste paper and 73 per cent of cardboard.

But there are easy ways to increase this, by including items such as wrapping paper, the cardboard rolls inside toilet paper and kitchen towel, egg boxes and the cardboard sleeves on food packaging.

Making paper from recycled material saves 70 per cent of the energy used and 73 per cent of air pollution created when using raw materials.

Every Bexley home has either a green paper recycling box or a blue recycling bin for flats.

All of Bexley’s recycled paper is taken to Ayelsford Newsprint in Kent, where it is made into newsprint.
