THE MOTHER of murdered student Stephen Lawrence has had her £30,000 BMW carjacked.

Doreen Lawrence, aged 58, was driving along Sandfield Road in Thornton Heath, when she was rear-ended by three men in a Mercedes on Tuesday (October 12).

As she got out of the car to exchange details with the driver and inspect the damage, two men barged her out of the way, jumped in to her car and sped off.

The third man drove off in the Mercedes leaving Mrs Lawrence stranded at the side of the road in the dark waiting for police to arrive.

Her handbag containing her purse and credit cards was also taken.

Mrs Lawrence’s 18-year-old son was stabbed to death in an unprovoked attack as he waited for a bus in Eltham in April 1993.

Five men were arrested after the teenagers death but no-one was convicted of his murder.

After the trial had finished an inquiry into the police investigation highlighted serious incidents on institutional racism from the Met officers on the case.

Mrs Lawrence has since become a human rights campaigner, dedicated to fighting racial crime and police misconduct.

In 2003 she received the OBE for services to community relations.

A Met Police spokesman said: “Police were called at around 7.30pm on October 12 regarding the theft of a vehicle in Sandfield Road, Thornton Heath. Another car was involved in a minor collision.

“When the woman came out of her car two males entered and drove the car away.”
