ST PAUL'S CRAY: Fight against McDonald's plan

SCHOOLS and MPs have joined the fight against a plan to turn a pub into a burger bar.

The owner of The Broomwood in Sevenoaks Way, St Paul’s Cray, has applied to the council for permission to change it into a drive-thru fast food restaurant.

If this is approved then McDonald’s is expected to buy the site.

Orpington MP Jo Johnson, Bromley & Chislehurst MP Bob Neill and nearby schools are now involved in the protest.

Grays Farm School’s head teacher Nicki Stockdale said: “We are trying to promote walking to school but the extra traffic will make it more dangerous for the children.”

And Mr Johnson said: “I’m not really convinced that the community as a whole is best served by another fast food outlet.”

get a grip. it's a Macdonalds. Not a crack house. its hardly going to bring more traffic there as that road is already a major route in and out of Orpington so that excuse wont work. And kids don't walk to school anymore they get lifts. maybe that part of the world could do with the extra dozen jobs and getting rid of a shady pub at the same time seems a bonus to me

HAVE A LAUGH Nicki Stockdale!!!! Firstly how many people do you know who seriously stop off in the morning for a mcdonalds breakfast when they are on there way to work or school? and how many do you know visit between the hours of 3pm-3:30pm??? secondly i looked at a house near your school however my partner was worried about the traffic build up from mums who drive their big 4x4 status symbol cars to the school and surprise, surprise we visited the house within school time, someone had parked over the drive and there wasn't any spaces on the street so the estate agent parked near the end of the road. Maybe if those who could walk to school could kindly leave their cars at home to prevent extra traffic and those who choose to walk to school can stop off and grab a burger on their way home haha job done!!
Not sure who these people are fighting against the idea because i can put my hand on heart and say i honestly do not know one person in favour of keeping the pub open!!!!

The pub is dispicable. Bring on Old Maccy D's I say. And as others have mentioned, will create far more jobs for local people than the pub will ever.

I welcome the McDonalds... or anything to replace the 'pub'. I doubt very much that there will be a dramatic increase of traffic!!!, however, if there is, perhaps it will discourage the parents to drive to school.... Win-win situation Mr Headteacher!! I really cant understand why people are so against it.... however, the ironic thing is.... the two words that I have to enter in order to post this reply are 'lack-drug'.... perhaps that says it all!!!!!!

How about no pub or junk food outlet. Instead they could have a drug and pedo rehab drop in centre.

How about no fast food or pub, but a family planning centre to give out free condoms and the pill to stop the local chavs from breeding anymore. Or a vets to neuter the chav population of SMC and SPC.

They could have an all in one centre. Methadone / drug rehab / Family planning / Abortion centre drive thru first of it's kind in the country, after all everywhere as a Maccy D's.

A drive through scrap yard would surely suit the whole community much better.

I welcome a Macccy D,s and hope to be enjoying a Quarter Pounder with Cheese in the not too distant future. I am sure the local food outlets are robust enough to continue with the competition and that can only be good for the customers. Incidently, I don't recall such a fuss being made about Dominos opening in Cotmandene this week!

I wonder how many of the protestors ever used it as a pub ? And if not, should it remain a pub how many will use it?
