SCHOOLS and MPs have joined the fight against a plan to turn a pub into a burger bar.
The owner of The Broomwood in Sevenoaks Way, St Paul’s Cray, has applied to the council for permission to change it into a drive-thru fast food restaurant.
If this is approved then McDonald’s is expected to buy the site.
Orpington MP Jo Johnson, Bromley & Chislehurst MP Bob Neill and nearby schools are now involved in the protest.
Grays Farm School’s head teacher Nicki Stockdale said: “We are trying to promote walking to school but the extra traffic will make it more dangerous for the children.”
And Mr Johnson said: “I’m not really convinced that the community as a whole is best served by another fast food outlet.”

get a grip. it's a Macdonalds. Not a crack house. its hardly going to bring more traffic there as that road is already a major route in and out of Orpington so that excuse wont work. And kids don't walk to school anymore they get lifts. maybe that part of the world could do with the extra dozen jobs and getting rid of a shady pub at the same time seems a bonus to me
