TWO drivers have been arrested after an elderly woman was killed in a road accident.

Police were called at 12.15pm yesterday (Sept 23) to reports of a car hitting a pedestrian on Stratheden Road, Blackheath, near the junction with Charlton Road.

The pedestrian, a woman in her late 70s, was pronounced dead at the scene. Next of kin have been in formed.

Police say the driver of the car fled the scene on foot but was subsequently arrested and taken into custody at a south London police station.

Officers believe the car was involved in a minor collision with another vehicle before colliding with the pedestrian and some communal garden railings.

The driver of the other vehicle was also arrested.

Traffic officers are investigating the collision.
