Bexley police have stepped in to scotch stories about a series of attempted child abductions.

The rumours began after a story in a national newspaper which alleged two men in a white van had tried to abduct two seven-year-old boys in Sidcup on September 3.

Since then rumours have been rife of other copycat incidents across the area.

This week Bexley police told News Shopper they had received a report of an incident in Burnt Oak Lane, Sidcup on Friday 3rd September involving the occupant of a white van who allegedly spoke to two children.

A police spokeswoman said officers will be speaking to the people involved and remain open minded about this incident.

Police stressed they have received no allegations of any abductions or attempted abductions.
