BROMLEY: Thief dyed hair to avoid capture following Crimewatch appeal

A THIEF who dyed his hair to avoid capture after seeing himself on Crimewatch has been sentenced.

Anthony Legg, aged 48, from Basildon, stole £90 from Jack Jones in the Glades shopping centre by entering the store and opening the cash register as staff were distracted.

He used a key he had previously stolen from another shop.

Despite dying his hair after CCTV images of him were broadcast on television, Legg was recognised and subsequently arrested at his home.

Legg, who had already pleaded guilty to theft, was given a 12-month community order, a six-month drug rehabilitation requirement and ordered to pay £100 compensation at Bromley Magistrates' Court.

He asked for four other similar offences at New Look stores in Romford, Brent Cross, Coventry and Antwerp in Belgium to be taken into consideration.
