IT was impossible to live in the area and not know this year’s Barnehurst Festival was taking place.
Uniformed groups from St Martin’s Church in Erith Road, which organises the festival, marched through the streets, headed by a van playing music and covered in bunting, from Barnehurst Methodist Church in Barnehurst Road to St Martin’s.
Bexleyheath and Crayford MP David Evennett opened the festival and also tried his hand at making pancakes for hungry festival goers.
Despite rival attractions on the day, hundreds of local people turned out to enjoy activities which included fairground rides, a model railway exhibition, craft and plant sales and lots of stalls and sideshows.
The event raised £2,000 for St Martin’s, which begins a year-long 75th birthday celebration later this year .
