DONATIONS from visitors to an RAF site have raised enough cash to buy two replica war planes.
Around £50,000 has been spent on buying a Hurricane plane and a Spitfire plane, which are on display at St George’s RAF Chapel in Main Road, Biggin Hill.
Cash was raised during the 10 years from visitors, residents and various fundraising initiatives.
The original Spitfire plane was flown by Pilot Officer Geoffrey Wellum from the 92 Squadron and Flight Lieutenant Peter Brothers, from the 32 Squadron, flew the Hurricane aircraft.
Both men piloted the planes from Biggin Hill during the Battle of Britain in 1940.
Laurie Chester who works at the chapel said: “The planes are here in memory to all those pilots who flew from Biggin Hill during the war.”
