BEXLEY police have confirmed they have received a complaint about an alleged assault by children on another child at a Bexley primary school.

The complaint was made by the parents of the 10-year-old victim who attends a school in Crayford.

News Shopper understands the assault had sexual overtones and involved three children of a similar age to the victim.

It took place in the playground and was witnessed by other children.

News Shopper understands the victim needed hospital treatment.

But some parents with children at the school say they are angry the main perpetrator was only suspended from the school for two days and the other two children involved just lost playground privileges.

They have written to Bexley Council’s education department and the school governors voicing their concerns.

A school spokeswoman said: "This kind of behaviour is not at all acceptable and the incident was investigated promptly and fully and all necessary action taken, including the fixed term exclusion of the children and their school privileges removed.

"Parents of all the children involved have been kept informed."

She added: "We understand, as a matter of course, the police were informed of the incident but no further action was considered to be necessary."

"The headteacher and the chairman of governors are satisfied that the correct steps have been taken to deal with the incident."
