POLICE have hailed an almost 10 per cent reduction in overall recorded crime in the last year.

There were more than 2,500 fewer crimes in the borough between April 1 last year and March 31 compared with the same period for the previous year.

Motor vehicle crime plummeted by almost 30 per cent, with around 3,000 offences in the last year.

However the borough saw residential burglary increase by more than six per cent, with nearly 2,200 offences reported.

Bromley police’s borough commander Chief Superintendent Charles Griggs said: “These figures really do speak for themselves and I am proud of our efforts to reduce crime on the borough.

“The last 12 months have been really challenging, particularly as burglary had been rising across London.”
