SHOPPERS have been ambushed by teams of green pupils as part of a school eco-challenge.

Students, aged nine to 10, from Cherry Orchard Primary School in Marlborough Lane, Charlton, quizzed shoppers in Charlton's Co-operative store about their green credentials.

Yesterday's questionnaire was part of Co-op's Green Energy for Schools programme and was designed to highlight areas where residents can cut their carbon footprint.

It was the school's way of saying thank you for its recently installed Co-operative solar panels.

Headteacher Jan Beames said: “The eco-warriors project gives them the chance to carry out some interesting and original research and share their knowledge and enthusiasm with the wider community.”
