TWO 20-year-old men have been found guilty of murdering a doctor during a robbery near Buckingham Palace.

Thomas Connor, of Curtismill Way, St Paul’s Cray, and William Paton, of Clarendon Way, St Paul’s Cray, were both found guilty at the Old Bailey today (April 16) of the murder and robbery of Dr Nadim Gulamhuseinwala.

The robbery took place in London’s Green Park on July 25 last year.

Dr Gulamhuseinwala (below), a qualified surgeon and management consultant, was on his way home following a night out with friends when he was attacked in the park in the early hours.

During the attack the 32-year-old doctor was hit over the head with an iron railing and his mobile phone, wallet and cash were stolen.

He was knocked unconscious and died in hospital on August 5 from head injuries.

Connor and Paton had denied the charges but were convicted after a three-week trial.

Connor, a former photographic model who appeared on packets of Angel Delight pudding mix, admitted to hitting Dr Gulamhuseinwala with a metal pole but denied intending to cause any serious harm.

Paton said he did not see the attack because he was behind a tree and claimed he only rifled through the unconscious man's pockets afterwards because Connor told him to.

Both defendents admitted spending Dr Gulamhuseinwala's money on a prostitute after the assault.

Detective Inspector Jeff Minns, investigating officer from the Met Police’s homicide and serious crime command, said: "I welcome today's verdicts.

“Only Nadim's family and friends can really understand what the last eight months has been like and I would like to thank them for unwavering support of police and their patience throughout the investigation and trial.

"The result today won't bring Nadim back, but hopefully it brings them a degree of comfort and will assist them in coming to terms with the tragic and traumatic events of July 25 last year.

“While they have had to endure the pain of bereavement following the death of Nadim, his brother Imran, his mother and father, and girlfriend Rebecca have done this with utmost dignity.

“Of crucial importance was the DNA and CCTV evidence available in this case, both of which hugely assisted in the successful outcome.”

Connor and Paton will be sentenced on April 22.
