IT will be interesting to see what kind of reception Neil Warnock gets when he returns to Selhurst Park tomorrow with QPR for a vital relegation clash.

Warnock became something of a cult figure with Eagles fans during his three-year reign in SE25 but his decision to jump ship after Palace were put into administration has tarnished that reputation.

There is no doubting Warnock achieved great things at Palace bearing in mind the financial constraints he worked under.

Transforming them from relegation candidates to the play-offs in his first season was undoubtedly the highlight.

But there was also his willingness to give kids a chance and get the best out of his small squad which are also worth commending.

Like everybody else associated with the club, Warnock was understandably shocked and disappointed by the move into administration which resulted in a 10-point deduction and an unwanted relegation scrap.

However, his decision to jump ship to the Hoops instead of sticking out the challenge of saving the Eagles from a relegation dogfight has not gone down too well.

It didn’t help that the switch to west London was dragged out for so long.

Warnock is well known for his forthright nature but his vagueness on his future intentions once the QPR rumours began certainly wasn’t his finest moment.

He knew he was always going to head to Loftus Road so why didn't he just say so and end the uncertainty once and for all?

Perhaps he wanted to hang around for the FA Cup run but more importantly Palace lost several crucial league matches while the saga of Warnock’s future was dragging on.

How costly that will turn out to be will only become clear at the end of the season but fair play to Warnock’s successor Paul Hart, who has picked up seven points from the last nine going into tomorrow’s game.

Ironically QPR have relegation worries of their own and defeat tomorrow will see Warnock’s new side overtaken in the table by his former one.

Perhaps that is the biggest incentive of all for the Crystal Palace players who stuck with the club during the current crisis.

He who laughs last, laughs loudest, the old adage says and there will be plenty of joy in SE25 come 4.45pm should the Eagles claim three points.
