A BLACK father has adopted Big Brother-style tactics to protect his home and family from racist yobs.

Jean-Paul Webb-Benjamin says youths have racially abused his family, thrown bricks at his house and scratched his car during a three-year hate campaign.

Now he has taken drastic steps to guard his home in Charminster Road, Mottingham by putting two CCTV cameras on his roof.

The cameras, which cost around £200 each, are wired up to the TV in the front room.

This means the animation student can be watching EastEnders before flicking channels to see what is happening closer to home.

He said: "It is something I thought I had to do to keep my family safe. The kids around here don't like us because of the colour of our skin.

"If we hear any noise or disturbance outside we switch the TV over straight away to see what is going on."

Mr Webb-Benjamin, who attends Ravensbourne College, Hayes Lane, Bromley, says he has been the target of racial abuse since he moved into the area in 2003.

He also claims he has been attacked by gangs of youths and has reported several incidents to the police.

The 25-year-old says he has been forced to take action to protect his partner Caroline Lamb, 30, who is seven months pregnant, and their children Terrileigh, 12, and nine-month-old Natasha.

Mr Webb-Benjamin also feels his fellow residents are motivated by jealously.

He said: "We are intelligent people.

"Those around here do not like the fact we are go-getters trying to make something of ourselves.

"People in this area just hate the idea we will get out of this hell-hole before they do."

Mr Webb-Benjamin says he is looking to move out of the area once he has finished his studies.

Police say they are currently investigating the allegations made by Mr Webb-Benjamin.
