POLICE believe the human remains found in a woodland in Higham is the body of a man.

Forensic officers from Kent police are searching the wooded area at the end of Canal Road after a body was found there at around 4pm yesterday (April 7).

A cordon is expected to remain in place for the rest of the day while they try to determine the cause of death.

Senior investigating officer Detective Chief Inspector Dave Withers said: “Forensic officers will remain at the scene for most of the day as we try to establish the circumstances surrounding the death. “We believe at this time the body is that of an adult man but until we can establish the cause of death we must treat this as unexplained.”

A police spokeswoman said a forensic anthropologist will be assisting officers in the removal of the remains.

Although no roads have been affected by the cordon, a public footpath has been closed.
