A CAR was allegedly firebombed last night as it was being towed away for being illegally parked in Shortlands.

The extraordinary events unfolded as a silver Renault Clio was loaded onto the back of a recovery lorry near Shortlands railway station.

The car is thought to have been illegally parked in Nightingale Court, Valley Road.

But firefighters who attended the scene say when the car was on the back of the truck it was “firebombed” by someone who later fled the scene.

Fire crews had the blaze under control within 45 minutes and, along with the car, the recovery lorry was left damaged by the flames.

The London Fire Brigade, British Transport Police, Bromley Police and traffic wardens were all in attendance during the fire which started at around 8.30pm.
