A TRUCK allegedly fleeing from security staff ended up next to a runway at Biggin Hill Airport on Tuesday (April 6).

Bromley Police say they were called to the airport in Main Road at around 11.15am after reports a small group of men were trying to steal metal vital to airport operations.

When challenged by security staff the men allegedly fled in a tipper truck, crashing through a security barrier and ending up just 100 yards from the runway.

The truck then continued through a hedge before colliding with a Mercedes car and disappearing.

Three men have been charged in connection with the incident.

Robert Simpson, aged 21, of Ronfearn Avenue, St Mary Cray, has been charged with theft, breaching an airport restricted zone, failing to stop at the scene of a road traffic collision and driving without due care and attention.

Joe Simpson, aged 19, of Mells Crescent, Mottingham, and 22-year-old Jack Haycraft of Lullingstone Avenue, Swanley, have both been charged with theft and breaching an airport restricted zone.

The trio were due to appear at Bromley Magistrates’ Court yesterday (April 7).
