RESIDENTS of a controversial prefab estate have won the right to a vote on the future of their homes.
People from Catford’s Excalibur estate have divided opinions about what should happen to the properties.
Homes were likely to be demolished and redeveloped as part of a transfer from Lewisham Council to L&Q housing association after residents complained of poor living conditions.
The council announced it was considering classifying the scheme as a “regeneration” meaning people would not be able to vote on what happened to the estate.
But at a Mayor and Cabinet meeting last month the Mayor of Lewisham, Sir Steve Bullock, instructed council officers to make plans to ballot residents on the Estate. He also asked them to proceed with plans for a regeneration scheme for the estate.
A ballot is expected to take place within the next two months.
