TRAGEDY struck in Charlton over the Easter weekend when a man died in a flat fire.
Four fire engines and around 20 firefighters attended the blaze in Rectory Field Crescent in the early hours of Saturday morning (April 3).
The London Fire Brigade says part of the ground floor flat was damaged by the flames and smoke before fire crews discovered the body of a man inside the premises.
Firefighters was called at 4.05am and the fire was under control by 4.48am Fire crews from East Greenwich, Greenwich, Woolwich and Lee Green attended the blaze.
The cause of the fire is now under investigation.
The Met police have confirmed the man's death was not being treated as suspicious.
In 2007, four newly built homes in Rectory Field Crescent were destroyed in an unconnected arson attack.
The road is part of the Cherry Orchard Estate, which was part of a major regeneration project several years ago.
