A SUPERMARKET giant is set to finalise its proposal for a major new town centre store.

Plans to build a 80,000sq ft Tesco Extra in the heart of Woolwich will be submitted in the next couple of months.

Tesco hopes to secure final planning permission for the new development before deciding on an opening date.

Spokesman Catherine Edwards said: "It will be a major development which will hopefully regenerate the town centre."

The store is part of a major development of a site between Wellington Street and Woolwich New Road planned by developer St James Investments.

This will also see the demolition of council offices at Peggy Middleton House.
