CARS and burnt-out motorbikes dumped among 300 graves have been removed to restore a woodland.
Over six days, 56 volunteers gathered at the former Joyce Green Hospital smallpox cemetery to undo 60 years of neglect.
The 3.5 acre site is now known as the Enchanted Woodland after a competition run four months ago at Temple Hill Primary School to change the site's image from a cemetery to a woodlands.
The woodlands had become overgrown and a haven for flytippers.
Workers removed rubble, cut back vegetation to reveal hidden walkways and installed concrete blocks at the site's Cornwall Road entrance to prevent further flytipping.
The event was organised by the Chart Partnership, a group of three housing associations providing accommodation in the area.
Project co-ordinator Debbie Fryer said: "It's looking better already but there's more to be done. We want visitors to be able to experience the woodland's peace and tranquillity."
