The yellow lines scam pulled by so many councils is a sneaky way to earn money.

I am talking about the fact that many councils do not clearly warn drivers of the rules for parking during bank holidays.

Having lived in boroughs where parking restrictions on yellow lines were exempt on bank holidays, I wrongly assumed all boroughs were the same.

But seeing 10 cars parked on the single yellow line at the top of Maze Hill, Greenwich, with parking tickets slapped on the windscreens made me look up the rules.

It seems each borough is different.

We are particularly unlucky in south east London because there is no let-up on the parking restrictions ever.

What I think is particularly sneaky about this is the fact the signpost with the parking details on it in Greenwich simply says no parking Monday to Friday.

It does not make clear bank holidays are no exception.

The fact there were so many cars parked on the yellow line indicates most drivers are not clear about the rules.

For people to follow the rules they must be clearly stated.

It seems to me Greenwich Council is quite happy to scam the public out of £40.
