HAYES (KENT) EVENING TOWNSWOMEN'S GUILD

At our April AGM Chairman Freda Wright together with her loyal band of officers and committee were re-elected for the forthcoming year. Votes of thanks were extended in appreciation of the success of the previous twelve months when members had enjoyed a medley of speakers and events. Then followed an introduction to the measures covered within the new Licensing Laws. This was presented by Nazan Djemall, Community Engagement Manager, from Bromley Police Station. A thought provoking talk.

In May we were intrigued with an illustrated talk by Mrs Yvonne Walker on the history of Addington Palace. This enabled us to view the alterations to the exterior and enjoy the splendid features of the interior of the building. The Palace has had many changes both structurally and in occupancy including six bishops over the years. Its links with the 900 year old local parish church St Mary the Blessed Virgin that contains attractive features and memorials to past occupants also proved to be of great interest. Dates for visits to both the Palace and the Church were noted so that members could view these local historical sites. An excellent evening.

Our next monthly meeting will be held at 7.45pm on Wednesday June 7 at Pickhurst Junior School Hall when Cllr Mrs Anne Manning will be speaking on My Mayoral Year'. We look forward to seeing you. Contact point 020 8777 1873 for details of our forthcoming events.
