TEENAGE mothers celebrated the opening of an £11,750 garden containing equipment for their children to play with.

Residents from seven homes in Jubilee Court, Dickens Road, Gravesend, which houses young mums, have a new play area after receiving grants to fund the project.

Kent County Council's Gravesham Local Board donated £5,000 to the project, and funding was also given by SureStart, deprived youth charity Hyde Charitable Trust, grant-makers The Henry Smith Charity and affordable housing providers The Hyde Group.

The garden contains toy toadstools, mirrors, a sandpit and brightly-coloured surfaces.

Local board chairman Councillor Mike Snelling said: "It will provide a relaxing place for mums and their babies to enjoy their time together."

Katie Highway, Secretary of the Friends of Jubilee Court, said: "The garden is beautiful and the children love their new play area."
