PARENTS and children have been benefiting from a new community room at a school.
The new £50,000 centre at Plumcroft Primary School, Plum Lane, Plumstead, is being used to host a breakfast club and offers a service to train parents in first aid.
It is also used by Somali parents to help them improve their Englis skills and have school letters translated for them by the school's Somali-speaking support worker.
The centre was opened by former deputy headteacher Tony Runham watched by parents and the school's 540 pupils.
Headteacher Richard Gray said: "The community room makes Every Child Matters more than a slogan."
The work was funded by the school parents' association, Changes in Common, Greggs' the Bakers and the Big Lottery Fund.
