AN INDIE rock band from Mick Jagger's home town are hoping to emulate his success after being signed to a record label.

Dartford band Heymaker signed a recording deal with On the Run Productions last month after sending them a demo track.

The group formed more than four years ago when they were introduced by a mutual friend who knew they were all musicians.

Heymaker write their own music and take their inspiration from bands including The Rolling Stones, The Doors and Led Zepplin.

The self-taught musicians all originate from Dartford and have gigged at The Courthouse, the Bull n Vic and The Dartford Festival.

Lead singer Emlyn Simmons said: "I don't have a musical family and it wasn't until I was older I took singing seriously."

Band members Jay Daws, 28, Justin Cunningham, 24, Ben Griffiths, 30, Tim Dansie, 29, and Mr Simmons, 25, became known as Heymaker following a drunken night in The Courthouse Pub, Spital Street, Dartford.

Mr Simmons said: "The name does not mean anything. We just thought it sounded cool."

All five members hold down full-time jobs but spend every spare minute rehearsing and promoting the band.

Mr Simmons, who works as printer, said: "We have all had to struggle to get where we are now, and we know the struggle isn't over yet.

"But we don't want to stay in our nine-to-five jobs.

"We all want to realise our dreams and live the rock and roll lifestyle."

They are set to play at the Dartford Festival which will tie in with the release of their debut single Here Today, which will be available from the download charts at the end of July.

Mr Simmons added: "The future of Heymaker has to be world domination."
