A FORMER postman has been recognised by the National Blood Service for giving 101 donations in the past 60 years.
John Budd and 102 other blood donors were rewarded for saving up to 29,000 lives at a ceremony in Covent Garden on April 12.
The 70-year-old was presented with a crystal decanter by Dr Jean Harrison, a consultant haematologist for the NBS.
He was prompted to give blood when his sister, Margaret, who is now 60, had to have a blood transfusion when she was born.
Mr Budd, of Kashmir Road, Lewisham, said: "It was brilliant to be recognised in this way. It means a lot to me to give blood. It is the only way to save lives."
An NBS spokesman said: "These donors are the silent heroes of our country and they deserve our gratitude for continuing to give up their time for no reward other than the satisfaction of knowing they save lives."
