A MAN has been jailed for 11 years for stealing £189,600 worth of jewellery, including a necklace and bracelet worn by Olympic gold medallist Dame Kelly Holmes.

Lewis Brown, aged 24, of New Cross Road, Deptford, was sentenced at Kingston Crown Court on April 26 for three armed robberies and an attempted armed robbery from jewellers across London. He had pleaded guilty to the charges.

Brown walked into Boodle and Dunthorne jewellers, Regent Street, London, with three other men armed with lump hammers, on October 14, 2004.

They stole a £90,000 necklace and a £40,000 bracelet, which was worn by Dame Kelly Holmes at the MOBO music awards two weeks before the robbery.

Brown was involved in an armed robbery eight days later at Lucie Campbell Jewellers, New Bond Street, London, stealing £69,605 worth of jewellery.

And he also stole £4,000 from Bradford and Bingley Building Society, High Street, Sutton, on December 8, 2004.

The defendant then attempted an armed robbery seven days later at John F Ford Jewellers, Cheam, Surrey.

Detective sergeant Daniel O'Sullivan from Barnes Flying Squad said: "The sentencing is the result of an extremely successful operation by the Flying Squad, which has led to a ruthless armed robber, intent on using extreme violence, being taken off the streets of London."
