A GROUP of young people have painted a mural to pay tribute to the changing face of east Greenwich.
The idea for the mural, funded by English Partnerships, originated after a community meeting about the demolition of the Greenwich District Hospital site.
Youngsters from charity The Forum, based in Trafalgar Road, Greenwich, wanted to take part in the project to celebrate the current developments taking place in their neighbourhood.
Eleven youngsters aged between 13 and 17 took part.
Next year building work on the old hospital site will take place.
This will include a new leisure centre, a new library and a housing development.
The mural, called The Changing Face of East Greenwich, shows the old industries of the area and modern construction work representing development on the peninsula and on the hospital site.
Chris Gibbons, a senior youth worker at The Forum, said: "The mural is so impressive.
"Much of the credit needs to go to the artist in charge, Kevin Fitzpatrick.
"The historical parts are painted in sepia, which then merge into colour for the newer developments.
"We are really proud of the young people who have taken part."
