PARISHIONERS and church leaders have paid tribute to a retiring reverend who bid farewell to his flock after more than 30 years of service.
More than 140 people visited Deptford Town Hall to pay tribute to the retiring Rural Dean of Deptford, the Reverend Graham Corneck, 70.
Lewisham Mayor Steve Bullock organised the event to honour Mr Corneck, who has been vicar at St Nicholas Church, in Deptford Green, and St Luke's Church, in Charlton, for 32 years.
Mr Bullock made a speech at the civic reception held on February 24, paying tribute to the reverend's contribution to Deptford and Lewisham.
Grandfather-of-six Mr Corneck, who is married to Sue, was presented with a specially-made document illustrating Deptford's heritage as a memento of his time at the church.
He plans to spend his retirement continuing his community work and promoting Deptford's heritage.
