NO other school in London has seen a greater proportion of applicants win a place at Oxford or Cambridge Universities this year than Forest School in Snaresbrook.

Figures released recently show that 68 per cent of applicants from the school in College Place were accepted, ten per cent more than the next best placed school, St Paul's girls school.

The two universities generally offer places to 25 per cent of those who apply but this year 19 of the 28 candidates from Forest have succeeded.

Forest sixth form director Mark Spencer Ellis said: "This is a very special group of sixth formers. Perhaps one of the secrets of their success is that they work really well together and are always sparking ideas off each other."

The Oxbridge offers take in a wide range of subjects including classics, computing, economics and management, engineering, English, geography, history, law, maths, medicine, music, politics, philosophy, economicsand physics.

All five pupils who applied to study medicine at Cambridge have won places as have five applicants who joined Forest in the sixth form.

Those going to Oxford are Alexander Antao at Merton, Ashia Danga at Lady Margaret Hall, James Dobias at Merton, Katharine Harris at Mansfield, Sanjeev Jeyakumar at Brasenose, Holly Parsons at St Peter's, Nadine-Ruth Ramasamy at Trinity, and Madeline Stanley at Lady Margaret Hall.

The Cambridge contingent consists of Cini Bhanu at Peterhouse, Richard Browne at Selwyn, Aaron Chan at Fitzwilliam, Wesley Chua at Fitzwilliam, Cheryl Hung at King's, Kimberley Lwin at New Hall, Neha Pathak at Sidney Sussex, Niall Pay at St Catherine's, Charlotte Russell at Newnham, Nadeev Wijesuriya at Clare, and Sarah Wood at Sidney Sussex.
