TRAGEDY struck for a third time in four days when a motorist was killed while driving through Bickley.

James Harden died from multiple injuries after losing control of his blue BMW in Bickley Road.

The 20-year-old, of Ormonde Avenue, Orpington, hit a kerb and crashed into railings. A passenger in the car was taken to hospital.

The accident, which happened at 11.45pm on January 17, came two days after Chelsfield resident Olga Segieda-Salski was killed and four days after New Addington man Adrian Beadle died after his vehicle collided with a bus in Crystal Palace.

There was also more carnage on the borough's roads with accidents in Bromley, Beckenham and Petts Wood.

On Saturday, an unconscious 36-year-old male driver was taken by air ambulance to the Royal London Hospital, with a neck injury.

His red BMW hit a tree at 10.40am in Burnt Ash Lane, Bromley, near the Toyota Garage.

Two passengers, including a woman, were taken to Lewisham Hospital.

The next day at 7.10am, a black Honda Civic crashed into a bus shelter on Hayes Lane, Beckenham, near Scotts Lane.

The male driver was taken to Lewisham Hospital with damage to his hip and thigh but his injuries were not life-threatening.

Parts of the two roads had to be closed for several hours because electrical wires were exposed.

And yesterday a 14-year-old boy was hit by a blue Vauxhall Corsa at about 8am on Southborough Lane, Bromley, while on his way to school.

He was taken to the Princess Royal University Hospital, Farnborough, with minor injuries.

We reported last week on the smash between the 432 bus and a Volkswagen Golf, on Anerley Road, Crystal Palace, which killed car driver Mr Beadle, 18, of Salcot Crescent, New Addington.

The collision caused the bus to mount the pavement, hitting a railway bridge wall and knocking debris onto the track, just missing a train.

We also reported how Mrs Segieda-Salski, 69, of Well Hill, Chelsfield, died when her Mercedes collided with a BMW at the junction of Warren Road and Court Road, Chelsfield, on January 15.

The BMW driver, in his 20s, was arrested for causing death by dangerous driving and bailed to return to a south London police station on March 16.

Head of community safety Chief Inspector Marshall Kent said: "These tragic events have a devastating impact on families and, while not judging these cases, most accidents are avoidable."

Police are continuing to appeal for witnesses to the two accidents which killed Mrs Segieda-Salski and Mr Harden.
