A COUNCIL is asking residents to be careful what they throw away after a refuse collector was injured by broken glass.

The call to Swanley residents comes after the Sevenoaks Council employee was rushed to hospital and needed stitches for a deep gash wound in his leg.

The refuse collector had picked up a refuse sack containing broken glass.

Residents are being asked to carefully dispose of items such as knives, tools and broken crockery.

The council said sharp items should be wrapped in cardboard and clearly marked "dangerous item inside", or taken to the tip.
