I REFER to your report of the Labour council's proposed budget cuts in the coming years.

This comes as no surprise to the Conservative group.

In each of the last three budget debates I have produced an alternative budget, in written form, which predicted precisely this situation.

It has been manifestly plain to us that the council simply could not go on effectively financing its politically correct policies from what in effect is the bank balance, without the balance being eroded.

The electorate in Enfield appears to have been duped by the Labour Party, which is bolstered by a publicity machine which produces only the good news and leaves the public to find out the reality by default.

The Conservatives will continue to oppose cuts in front-line services whilst significant areas already identified by us continue to flourish apparently unaffected by any desire to cut budgets.

Councillor

TERENCE NEVILLE,

Leader of the

Conservative group,

Civic Centre,
